Minutes From The Waterford Landing WLHA Annual
Meeting
4/7/2010
The meeting was called to order at 7:05PM by John
Bogue, President
The Sheriffs Department was represented by
Major Floyd Hall
Sergeant Parker
Discussions with the Sheriff’s Department included
the Neighborhood Watch National Night out on August 3rd with
an invite for us to register or be registered by them on request. They
also mentioned the Triad meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of each
month. May 4th at 12:00 is their 2nd year
anniversary. They spoke of general safety tips like using your car key
fob panic button as an alarm, and suggested keeping it on you night
stand while in bed. Other suggestions were to lock your house and have
your keys with you while working on the lawn, particularly while mowing
or using other loud equipment. They recommended having a home alarm
system and posting generic signs as opposed to name brand monitoring
system signs. They suggested calling police dispatch at 804-469-3755
and programming the number into you cell phone and advising them when
you are away from home for vacation and on business travel. They also
suggested that you advise them if you have lights on timers that may
give the impression that someone is in the house, and reminded that a
follow up call should be made if you come home before the previously
advised time frame. They also recommended making 911 emergency calls
using your cell phone; this will avoid potential delays that may occur
with calls from home land lines because of call transfers that will
likely occur. Sgt. Parker advised that he could help the neighborhood
get signs for neighborhood watch and such and may even have the ability
to help us get them posted. He also spoke of added security measures
like pinning window and installing quality locks on various doors and
windows.
Wayne K. McKitrick, Treasurer presented the
Treasurer’s Reports for FY2009 and 1st Quarter 2010. The
reports were discussed and accepted by the members.
John Bogue discussed the landscaping contract and
the options the association has. Two members volunteered to source
additional quotes for consideration.
John Bogue informed the members that Miry Run and
Whipponock Way have been accepted into the VDOT System. As such, speed
limits will now be enforced by the Sheriff’s Department.
The Halloween trunk or treat was seen as a great
success and everyone seemed eager to repeat it this year with
suggestions on expansion of the program. Residents were asked to send
pictures to Tom Murray to post on the website.
There was recommendation of calling Comcast and
Verizon to inquire about service for the neighborhood. The idea is that
if there is enough interest they will do a sight survey and consider
providing service to the area.
The use of the common area was discussed along with
reminders to the neighborhood to display their hang tags and not use the
area for overnight or long term parking. There continues to be concerns
of unauthorized people using the common area and boat ramp. If
residents notice unauthorized use of this area please immediately report
it to the HOA directors and/or law enforcement so that this can be
addressed. Taking note of boat and vehicle information including boat
number and/or vehicle license number will be invaluable in helping to
enforce proper use of this area.
Discussed neighborhood cleanup and it was suggested
to coordinate a day to pick up trash, etc. throughout the neighborhood.
It was also requested that lots with gravel
driveways pay attention to gravel spilling out into the street. With
people walking in the evenings now, we are asking people to sweep the
gravel back into their driveways to lessen any potential injury from a
walker twisting their ankle or such on the rocks.
There was also additional discussion about resident
property improvement and making use or the ARB to approve work being
planned or preformed. Creating a user friendly format for checking on
this and self policing ideas were also discussed.
The members unanimously elected the five following
persons to serve for a one year term on the Board of Directors:
John Bogue
Colleen Brooks
Wayne K. McKitrick
Denny Davis
J. Bryan Cobb
With their being no further business to discuss,
the meeting was adjourned at 8:34PM.
Picnic
dates this year are tentatively June 7th and October 3rd
